Beretta 9000S Update

12/2/2007

Time does fly doesn't it? Nearly 3 years in service now.

Owning a gun shop, I have handled lots of pistols and had opportunity to swap this one out over and over again. The problem is kind of 2 fold. A. I will never sell it. B. I really haven't come across anything I would rather be carrying.

Early on, I was having issues with failure to eject. As it turned out, it was totally my fault. I was not loading hot enough to cycle the action. Can't even tell you the load data info now but switching powders and running plenty of pressure, there is no problem.

I have sold a lot of these guns now and to my dismay, Beretta has chosen to discontinue them. A couple of my distributors still have the 40S&W available but he 9mm version is gone. No doubt there are some available on Gunbroker and in shops scattered around the country but the supply is drying up.

In comparison to other pistols that are available, the 9000 is big and a little on the heavy side. This is the gun I wear in my shop everyday. I have gotten used to it and settled on a belt holster that I really like. It's a Bianchi Minimalist with Snap. This holster keeps the gun snug against my side and I don't have to undo my belt to take it off.

The finish on the gun is holding up very well and the holster is also holding up well, in spite of being bumped against the counter are chair arm now and then.

This gun goes with me pretty much everywhere which includes the trips to the farm. If time permits while at the farm, I burn up a little ammo and always enjoy shooting it out in the open. Got to messing around one day and decided to kill a small locust tree with it. Worked out just fine :)

A couple of guns that have made me go hmmmm: Kahr CW-40 and a S&W 37 Airweight that ended up in my shop. I have not shot the Kahr 40 but it is a nice little gun. Single stack so it's thinner in the grip and it's just lighter all over. The Airweight went to the farm with me one weekend with plans to shoot it. Didn't get to shoot it because I ran out of time and it sold the next week.

Probably should have kept that one just for the sake of owning it but if I start that there's no place to stop.
