Computer Survival Tips
Use At Your Own Risk

  • Clear out the cobwebs
  • You may not be viewing the current copy of a web page if you have not done the following.

For: Internet Explorer - click Tools/Internet Options - Then click on Delete Files and Clear history.

For : Netscape - click options/network preferences/clear memory and clear disk.

For what it's worth, I delete files and clear history at least daily, if you don't, your browser will look at old doc's and eat up your hard drive space.

Every page you ever viewed, up to max amount of disk space in your browser settings, stays in history for quick loading.

  • Free up more hard drive space

  • Weekly, I clean up my hard drive by removing junk the Internet has dumped on to it.

Here's How: On your desktop, double click My Computer double click Your Hard Drive double click Windows folder, double click Temporary Internet Files highlight and delete all files in this folder.

You can do the same to the Cookies folder, which is also within the Windows folder.

  • Speed up your system

  • To speed up your computer, run the Disk Defragmenter. Go into Programs/Accessories/System Tools and click on Disk Defragmenter. Select your hard drive (probably the default C:) and click OK. Even if the system comes back and tells you it is only 1 or 2 % fragmented, run it anyway. It will help performance. This process can take a while so do it when you are done with the computer for the day. You should also disable or close any other programs prior to running Defragmenter.
